Collecting debt from other companies
Debt collection is something all companies have to go through to maintain a steady level of cash flow in the company. It is when the debtors are late in making payments that debt collectors have to approach them for payment. If there is some delay in sending debt collectors to collect payment from these debtors, the company only ends up in a financial mess.
Without collecting resounding debt on time, the company only ends up with having too many unpaid bills and one of the many entities of the vicious finance cycle of non-payment. There are various methods you can use to approach the person or company owing you money, where the best method is one where there are no conflicts in the transaction.
When going debt collecting, it is important that you do it only after reviewing the details of the pending payment like credit record, account history and any promises that were kept and broken.
Speak to the person in charge
Make sure that you speak to the person in charge of paying the bill. If you don’t get to the person after a few calls, ascertain the reason for your call and give deadlines for responsive action if required. To do this, you should be in charge of the conversation.
This means that you should only talk about your debt, and not give scope for distractions in the form of excuses. This way you may only end a buddy with the debtor, and not receive any payment. Neither should you yell, raise your voice or threat; the best course of action for you would be to take legal action.
Be adjustable if required
However, you will have to be adjustable at times, depending on the situation. Consider the person you are dealing with, their problems and thus adapt to their conditions with a reasonable payment schedule. However be precise in the schedule and don’t leave anything unattended.
This means that your meeting should end with a commitment for payment of a stipulated amount of debt at a stipulated date. Remember that the longer is the period of the account, the lesser is the possibility of its recovery. In fact, if there is no response or payment made within 90 days, you have to make a claim with a collection agency and perhaps start legal proceedings against the company.
If you intend to hire a collection agency, make sure that it is a certified and recognized agency. This is to ensure that you are dealing with professionals who know their work.
