Presenting company financial figures

Many decisions in a company are made taking numbers into consideration. And the most important numbers required in making decisions in a company are its financial figures. This is why it is very important that these numbers are maintained well, and also has someone in charge of neatly and precisely presenting company financial figures at all times.

However not many people are comfortable in presenting company financial figures as to many, figures means maths which means fear and discomfort. So the first thing to do to to present company financial figures is to overcome this hatred and fear of numbers.

Once this fear is eradicated, understanding and presenting the figures is much easier. You then know when it is appropriate to use some figures and when it is not. In the process, you learn the limitations of numbers, and will be able to use it as a tool in making company decisions.

Present the figures as clearly as possible

While presenting the financial figures, you will have to present them to not one, but to several managers. Not all of them will have a financial background, so you have to present the numbers as clearly as possible so that they realize the financial performance of the company and be able to make right company decisions.

Make the presentation as clear and comprehensive to the managers by not only handing them statements, but by discussing the different lines. A better way of presenting company financial figures will be by placing yourself in the audience’s shoes to find out how much you will understand through the presentation. This way you can make changes in parts of the presentation which you find difficult in understanding.

Start the presentation from the most important numbers

While handling your presentation, start with the most important numbers of the presentation. Make sure they are all clearly explained in the presentation and then decide which terms and concepts are required in the presentation and try your best to explain them in term of layman’s terms.

Making an outline of the presentation where objectives and important figures and principles are displayed will help you in perfecting the presentation. Explain these objectives and why it is important to understand them.

Relating these objectives with something familiar helps with them understand the figures better and faster.  And last, but not least, take short breaks during the presentation so that your audience absorbs the presentation better.
